On Long Distance Relationships

Long distance relationship, or as I like to call it- long distance perpetual headache, is a bitch. I happen to be in one right now so I know what I am on about. One can always spot those poor creatures, notice one or more of the following common habits or signs:

  • Stuck to their phone
  • Wear a worried expression
  • Hate the city/ country their partner is currently living in
  • Panda- like eyes because of the time difference
  • Know more about Skype and Viber than the people who developed these software/apps

Relationships are not hard, it is usually the circumstances that toss two people into a choppy sea, without a life jacket, and say, "go on, find your way. Survive this then we will talk." Although you don’t get to see them every day, nothing compares to the jitters that you get when you finally do see them. It turns you into an independent person who knows the value of a good relationship. All of your silly arguments take place because you want to talk more to each other, and routine, that made you feel like you are stuck in a rut, starts to feel magical. Your level of trust and understanding grows exponentially and a little “me” time doesn’t make you feel guilty (F.R.I.E.N.D.S marathon in your pajamas and hair tied up in a bun... heaven).

Excuse my smugness, but long distance relationships are not for the weak. It does not get any easier; you just get a little better at letting the small things slide. It is annoying, difficult and maddeningly tricky. But if you are with the right person, someone you can trust your soul with, it is always worth it. And who knows, maybe you might set a new standard for a modern day, digital romance.
