Review: Biotique Bio Musk Root Hair Pack

Being Indian, you are expected to have three things: beautiful hair, a love for all things natural, and a digestive system strong enough for spicy food. I don’t have any of that. But what I do have is a lot of spare time, which I use to try out a lot of random things, and I already have a test subject desperate enough to go through all of it- me.

Biotique is an ayurvedic Indian brand that is 100% organic, vegetarian, preservative free, and they don’t test on animals. Every Indian’s dream, right? Other than marrying a tall, fair, slim, decent Brahmin girl or boy.

My mom was blessed with jet black, butt-length hair which she cut off, much to the dismay of everyone around her. Whereas I first noticed my receding hairline at the age of twelve. Thus, began my lifelong struggle in the pursuit of nice hair. My nani told me that my mom used a lot of natural hair products like Shikakai which is why she had such lovely hair. Unfortunately, my scalp does not like Shikakai, so Biotique Bio Musk Root Fresh Growth Nourishing Treatment Pack was the next best thing.

The hair pack is made up of natural ingredients that are supposed to turn your sad, lacklustre hair into Pantene shampoo commercial hair. Here is a quick explanation regarding the ingredients:

Amla + Bhaeda + Harad= Triphala
In Ayurveda, Triphala is a combination of three fruits- Amla, Baheda, and Harad. This mixture contains essential fatty acids that add strength and shine, vitamin C which stops greying, helps with dryness of the scalp, and stimulates hair growth. Triphala is usually consumed with water for the best results, but please don’t eat this hair pack.

Jaiphal
Also known as nutmeg, Jaiphal adds volume, shine and strength to your hair, and prevents hair fall.

Bael fruit
Reduces inflammation and itchiness of the scalp

Jatamansi
Muskroot, or Jatamansi, is an ayurvedic herb popular for accelerating hair growth.

Bhringraj
One of the most popular herbs for hair growth in India, Bhringraj stops hair fall, adds strength to your hair, and gives it plenty of nourishment.

Kikar Gond
Helps control hair fall.

Mulethi
Mulethi is basically liquorice root- it helps prevent hair loss, acts as an anti-bacterial, in case of scalp infections, and helps stop premature greying of the hair. It is also a gentle cleanser which will control the sebum production, reducing the oiliness of the scalp.

Neem
It contains antifungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties that are essential for scalp health.

Himalayan water
Just a fancy way of writing Aqua.

The hair pack has the consistency of Chyavanprash (if you don’t know what that is, picture thick, grainy mud), so it is suggested that you dilute the paste with either yoghurt or egg, as they have their own benefits when slathered on hair. Apply the mask on your scalp and the length of your hair for 30 minutes, then wash it off.

How I use it:
1.     Apply oil to my scalp.
2.     Mix 2 tablespoons of the hair pack with yoghurt. The quantity of the mixture will vary according to the length and thickness of your hair.
3.     Split hair into sections and apply it from your scalp to the ends of your hair.
4.     Wear a shower cap- this will help the pack to remain moist on your head, making it easier to wash off.
5.     Shampoo after an hour.

Results
After the first use, I immediately noticed a difference- my hair looked shiny and were a lot softer. They had volume for the first time in my life. They were bouncy. I never thought I would use the word bouncy to describe my hair. I was pretty sure bouncy hair was reserved for Bollywood actresses. My scalp got greasy three days after I washed them, a personal best for me. To comment on the hair growth aspect of it, I will have to use it for at least six more months.

This is where I would upload a before and after picture, but I am too much of an idiot to ever remember doing that.

The only drawback is that the 230 gram container will last you for only 5-6 uses. Less, if you have a lot of hair.

The Musk Root hair pack is the best product that I have used from Biotique. I have been using this for the past two months, and I plan on using it forever, because I feel it can become one of those products that finally save my hair.
