Signs You are a “Grown Up”

It is my twenty-fifth birthday today, so I got to thinking about things that make you feel like you are an adult. When you are really a child masquerading as an adult.

1.     Your body craves vegetables.

2.     Troy and the girl are the villains of High School Musical who ruin Ryan and Sharpay’s dream that they worked so hard for.

3.     Every sweet makes you wonder, “will this be the thing that turns me into a diabetic?”

4.     Grocery shopping gives you an adrenaline rush.

5.     You disagree with Ariel that she is old enough to take her own decisions.

6.     Every evening is errand evening.

7.     A good day is when your underwear matches, a bad day is when you have to wear pants for the entire day.

8.     Anxiety and stress are at the forefront of your emotions.

9.     You can count the number of friends that you have on one hand.

10.  You seem to be agreeing a lot with your mother.

11.  Parties seem tedious.

12.  Everyone around you seems to be getting married, having kids, working, and travelling. Even that weird kid you once knew.

13.  Walking into a place and noticing that everyone there is younger than you.

14.  ‘Me time’ becomes a luxury that you won’t trade in for anything.

15.  Routines and rituals become super important.

16.  Cooking meals from scratch is fun.

17.  Junk food doesn’t make you feel as happy as it once did. Food related guilt becomes all too familiar.

18.  You hiss “youths!” at young people Liz Lemon style and run away.

19.  You feel like warning kids about a trap called growing up.

20.  Cleaning your house seems therapeutic.

21.  Watching the news is depressing, yet a deeply embedded activity in your daily routine.

22.  Going “ugh” when you get up or sit down. Groaning is a verb you are quite familiar with by now.

23.  There is a massive stock of your sanitary napkins/tampons so that your period can never sneak up on you.

24.  Reading entire articles, that are not in a list form, seem like a waste of time.

25.  But then you end up thinking, “that is definitely why I am getting stupider”.
